The television images placed online here are from the Deutsches Rundfunkarchiv (DRA; German Broadcasting Archive). They document the living broadcast of the Deutscher Fernsehfunk (DFF; German Television Broadcasting), formerly Fernsehen der DDR (Televisions of the GDR), on the first free elections for the Volkskammer (People’s Chamber) of the GDR on March 18, 1990. The election reporting, around six hours long, is presented in chronological order without later editorial interventions. There are infrequent imperfections in the images and sound, but here too nothing has been corrected, since this broadcast, which is being made available online for the first time, is a historical document. Only where the rights to this publication were not granted (this is true almost throughout for the graphics and statistics for the predictions and projections that evening), is their omission is made evident with corresponding cuts and text panels.
