The viewing platform at the Berlin Wall by Potsdamer Platz was now as old as the Wall itself: built immediately after the Wall in 1961, it was demolished the night after the opening of the border checkpoint at Potsdamer Platz, because it was blocking the sidewalk and hence access to the border checkpoint.
