"Karl Liebknecht [...] organized a demonstration to end WWI on May 1, 1916, held on Potsdamer Platz. The "foundation stone for a monument for Karl Liebknecht" was laid on August 13, 1951 on the site of the anti-war protest. After construction of the Berlin Wall, the pedestal was located inside the border strip, after the fall of the Wall it was found to be on private ground and was accordingly removed on March 23, 1995 and put in storage." (Berliner Forum für Geschichte und Gegenwart, retrieved on 8 July 2009) In November 2003, the unfinished monument was erected once again.
