"Following a family party in Teltow in December 1989, we decided to pop over the border to the West, something that would have been impossible just a few days ago. There were still guards from the National People's Army positioned at the crossing. Being well-trained GDR citizens, we showed our passports and requested a stamp this time. Even the guards were relaxed and cracked a couple of jokes with us which they didn't usually do. Out of sheer joy at the Wall having fallen, the women hugged the guards."
