At the official opening of the new Brandenburg Gate border crossing, which was opened in a festive ceremony on 22 December 1989. Hundreds of camera teams and over 100,000 people attended the ceremony presided over by then BRD Chancellor Helmut Kohl and the then GDR Chairman of the Council of Minsters Hans Modrow.
