At the Ludwigsstadt station on the day of the opening of the inner German border between the Bavarian county Kronach and the Thuringian counties Sonneberg and Saalfeld, of which the neighboring town Probstzella belongs. The opening of the border crossing took place on 11 (rail), 12 (pedestrians) and 13 (road traffic) November 1989.
