Demonstration in Weimar
Original Caption
"I took the photos of Weimar sometime shortly after the fall of the Wall – most probably, in December 1989. I only had to show my ID card on arrival and the border guards were unusually friendly. On the way from the Bavarian border in Meiningen towards Eisenach, I saw lots of posters that welcomed us Western visitors as 'fellow countrymen'. When the demonstration went past me in Weimar, I was truly moved. A woman standing beside me cried while she told me about her life. She had once lived in the GDR. The Marx monument in the park had a poster hanging round its neck: 'Workers of the World... forgive me'."
