"When I got back from the main reunification celebration in Berlin, I really wanted to go and see the St. Nicholas' Church some time. I wanted to set foot in the place where, in my view, the birth of the peaceful revolution had come into being. At that time, I had already seen photos of the Monday demonstrations in Leipzig. I had much respect for the courage people showed in taking to the streets in the pursuit of personal freedom, and in so doing, risking their lives. There's much humour and unbelievable creative expression reflected in the banners. And the St. Nicholas' Church has once again become a place of quiet."
