Pedestrians waiting at Otto-Grotewohl Strasse (now known as Wilhelm Strasse) for the opening of the new border crossing at Brandenburg Gate, festively opened on 22 December 1989. Hundreds of camera teams and more than 100,000 people attended the border opening ceremony led by the then Bundeskanzler, Helmut Kohl and the East German premier, Hans Modrow.
