A crowd of people on the Eastern side of Brandenburg Gate, where a new border crossing was opened amidst celebrations on December 22, 1989. The opening ceremony was carried out by Helmut Kohl and the East German premier, Hans Modrow, and attracted more than 100,000 onlookers and hundreds of camera teams.
